(The Interest) “We care”: Serving other people with love!

We care is one of the events in Flash, a student’s activity in Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (UKSW). This event has a sense to help other people. We care is held once year in early November by visiting nursing homes. Within this program, we held some worships, like a prayer, a praise, and a sharing.

Last year, Flash held We Care event in Panti Jompo Wreda. Panti Jompo Wreda is located in Pancasila street, Salatiga. Ela Delila, as one of the committee, told that the event is for helping other people. Also, we care to the people who really need our help. We helped other people by cleaning their nursing home. We give some food and entertain the people at Panti Jompo Wreda. For example, the committee invited the nursing home to sing a song. The committee and the nursing homes did devotions there. After they did the worship, they invited the grandfather and grandmother to eat food together. After that, the committee share their experience about the activities in Flash, like sharing about the lesson in the class and we have worship every week.

Also, the people in nursing home share their experience about their life. The experience that they could life in the nursing home. Their family taken them to the nursing home. Because their family could not take care with them. Because of that, they spent their life in the nursing home without their family. They need concern from other people. However, the people in the nursing home still have a faith to life. Ela Delila told that join this event can help her to be more patient with the grandfather and grandmother in the nursing home. Also, she could share about God in this event. This event taught us how we should share with other people. By means of this event, creating a sense of caring and devotion to each other provides a spiritual experience to the participants. Ike Gohora, the participant of this event told that the event had a good impact. She was happy joining this event because she could learn from the people in the nursing home. Also, she could share happiness with them. She wanted to do the service more often. She wanted to spend more time with them. Then, the people in Panti Jompo Wreda felt glad to see us arriving their place. Because the grandfather and the grandmother felt comforted with us. They could do the another activities than the usual activities. In addition, we can do God’s decree in daily life, not only we join this event. However, we do the things that God’s want in our life, like, doing a good thing, honor with your parents, and do not bear false witness.

The importance of learning English in elementary schools

It’s surprise: The hours of English Education in elementary schools will be reduced!

Learning English is not just about how we will use it as a normal language. However, we need to learn English because it is a language that is most frequently used by foreign language speakers in the world. We need to improve English language skills in elementary schools mostly. Learning English in elementary school are the best place for the students to improve their English skill about English language. In addition, for some time now, duration to use English has decreased. In this case, the hours of learning English should not be reduced.

The first point is student need more hours to learn English. By learning English in the elementary school, student would get the idea how English will impact their knowledge and beneficial for their next education. Therefore, the students can get a good education for their future. The benefial of learning English for students in elementary school is, they will have a bilingual language. Having a bilingual language makes them can communicate with their friends using English. It can improve their speaking in the class with their friends. By learning English in the class, students need to know how to write or use English properly (Michelle Laird, 2016). For example, they need to use a grammar correctly in writing class. In addition, students need to do activities, like doing story telling, drama and sing a song using English. It can help them to be more confident. Also, it can help students to get valuable experience by doing activities like that. Then, students need more hours to learn English, because the students do not just learn from a guidebook. However, they can practice their English skills in the class while they are playing the games that provided by English teacher. By using games, they can easily to absorb the material from their teacher. In this case, learning English is not difficult because we can make the lessons more interesting and inovative. It would not make the students feel bored.

The second point is students will not have enough time to discuss with their English teachers. Learning English in elementary schools needs more duration. The students cannot ask question to their teacher. They also cannot discuss the material with their teacher. Then, they cannot consult with their problems to their English teacher. Not all of the students have the ability to learn English fast and easily. Thus, they need extra time to learn English in class. Also, English teacher is the source of their information about English. Students need the information and knowledge from their teacher about their material that they do not understand yet. If the time to learn English is to limit, they do not understand the English subject well. If the students just get a limit time to learn English, and they do not understand the material. It will waste the time for the students. Not only that, the students need to know how to write in English properly. They can ask to the teacher how to pronounce well. As a good teacher, teacher should make the students enjoy with the atmosphere in the class. For example, giving a greeting and using English while teaching. All of it, need more time for students getting know about English.

As a conclusion, duration of learning English in
elementary school are needed (Lucy Cheseldine, 2013). By doing many activities
in the class, they will not get bored to learn about English subject. Also,
they will get help from their teacher. The students can get a good education
for their future. It can make them more valuable. When the students want to get
a job, English can help them to get a good salary. Students can get the benefit
from learning English. In illustration, they will get abroad or school in other
countries. That’s why English is important for children. From the children they
get the lessons about English. It really helpful and useful for the children.

In the paper “Weblogs for use with ESL classes,” Aaron Patric Campbell (2003) states that blog is well-known as an online journal. People that using a blog can upload their ideas, opinion, and creation in there. Then, they can create their own blog with customize the layout of their blog. Making their blog more interesting using HTML or FTP. Also, the ushers of blog are increase because of the relative quickness and ease publishing this type of software affords. In addition, the tutor blog will give some methods to the learner blog. The tutor gives the material to practice the learner blog. For example, the tutor blog gives a material about science, and then the learner will read or learn from the material. Then, the tutor blog will share the link to help the learner to learn by self using weblog. Also, the tutor will share their information about the syllabus. The tutor can do online learning using weblog. The learner blog can learn how to write or read by weblog from their tutor. Also, they can develop their writing, practice to write, and also they will get experiences from writing in weblog. Using weblog are easy to do. We can discuss with our friends, teachers, and also other people from abroad. Because other people can see and give comments to your blog. Also, we can learn other language from the weblog. We can develop our skills and share knowledge together. There is one problem to consider is whether or not installation is required. Also, the important issue is cost. If you do not want advertise and commercial in your weblog. By using weblog, the learner or the tutor can easily doing their learning process.

Holy City, Kudus

Holy city, Kudus, is a wonderful place to stay.  First, there are two historical places. For example, we can visit Kretek Museum and The Tower of Sunan Kudus. In Kretek Museum, we can see Joglo House and also historical objects. Next, there are so many traditional food that you can try. There are special food such as Jenang Kudus, Nasi Tahu Gimbal, and Lentog. I suggest you to buy all the special food in Kudus, because it is delicious food and the price is cheap. In addition, the town square in Kudus is a beautiful place that you can visit, because there is a good park to do your sport activities.

Greetings

Hi, my name is Anne Christabella Santoso, but you can call me Anne. I was born on December 13, 1997 in Kudus. I was graduated from Masehi Senior High School. After I graduated, I choose to study at Satya Wacana Christian University. Also I entered in Faculty of Language and Arts. I didn't know why I chose this faculty, but my mother really want me to enter this faculty. Because she wanted me to be an English teacher. Since I was child, my mom entered me to English course. Now, I realize that English is my favorite lesson. It's just a little story about me.

When I studied in this faculty, I got some challenge in my class. I should do the activities in my reading class and writing class. I also should be able to speak in English properly. Then, I really nervous if I should stand in front of my friends to present my presentation. Then, I ever write an essay. It was really difficult for me. Because I should find the thesis statement and write with the right way. When I write something, I should use grammar. However, I am not really good at grammar.

My expectations in writing are I want to write with a good grammar. I hope I can fix my problems in writing, and I can improve my writing's skill. I expect that I can use other word to make my writing become interesting. Also, I want make the readers not confusing with my writing.

Biography

Evan Mario Santoso

This is a short biography of Evan Mario Santoso. He is my cousin. Evan was born on 7 March 1997 in Kudus. His parents are Budi Santoso and Hanna Setiawati. Evan has a brother and his name is Jeremy Nicholas. Evan's elementary school is Masehi School. He continued his study to Tarakanita Junior High School. And to Loyola Senior High School. Now, he is studying in Binus University.

In his elementary school, he got the first place, because he was diligent and smart. He always studied hard every day. In every exam, he always got a good grade. He got support from his parents to join some courses to improve his lessons.

In Senior High School, he got the third place in a photography competition. In fact, he just collected pictures to his school. He didn't know that he became the third place. His picture has a good value, so he won a photography competition and he got some money from the competition.

In 2015, he succesfully studied in Binus University. Binus University is the best in Jakarta. Because he was smart he can study there. He take IT courses, because he felt comfort to choose his courses.

Evan is the best and the closest cousin for me. We always play, eat, and study together. Until now we never lost contact. And he has a good personality so I'm proud to have a cousin like him. Because he taught me many things.
